As Above considers life, death, and the afterlife through a poetic exploration of alchemical processes found in the landscape. The project was photographed in the Yukon Territory in 2021, in the area where my Dad’s ashes had been scattered two years prior. It materialized over the course of several years, eventually manifesting as a series of experimental darkroom prints and a single edition publication. The works centre the alchemical touchstones of earth-air-fire-water, and they consider transmutation as a possible antidote to death.

Silver-gelatin photographic paper exposed to water, stones and sediment in Little Salmon Lake, 11x14 inches each (2021); silver-gelatin photographs experimentally processed with sunlight and fire, 8x10 inches each (2022 - 2025); single edition publication enclosed with a handmade sleeve made from foraged charcoal, 5x7 inches (2025).
