Island Obscura was a public art project installed outside of the Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts (Toronto Islands) in May 2026. The work consisted of long-exposure solargraphs made inside of a pinhole camera, and a walk-in camera obscura. Both of these rudimentary cameras function on identical principles: light is let into a darkened chamber through a small opening and an image is projected onto the surface opposite the aperture. In the pinhole camera, this image has been recorded via a long exposure; in the camera obscura, the image is an ephemeral experience.

Solargraph (light-sensitive photo paper exposed inside of a homemade pinhole camera for 18 months) digitized and printed on coroplast; Camera Obscura (garden shed, light-proofing materials).

Exhibited at Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts as part of the CONTACT Photography Festival, May 1-31, 2026.
